Farmers Information Exchange for Ghana
2011
A significant way to reduce poverty in rural regions of the world is to stimulate market activity.
In the summer of 2011, our team spent 2 months in Ghana developing methods to increase farming yield for subsistence farmers in rural communities. We prototyped a phone system that allows farmers to leave farming tips, best practices, and market pricing to benefit their neighbor farmers.
The famers loved the product, and genuinely found joy in using it. Unfortunately, after several weeks of meetings with major companies and non-profits in Ghana, we unable to raise additional funding to continue the project. The project then became a candidate project for future IDDS participants to continue.
